Total Media has established itself as one of the UK’s leading independent media agencies, specialising in full service media communications across 80 markets.

Recently voted the Drum’s Independent Media Planning and Buying agency of 2014, we offer the complete range of UK and international media services under one roof, including media planning and buying, digital strategy and delivery, PPC and SEO, social media, market research, data services and print production. The agency employs over 100 people, with its HQ based in leafy Kensington London and its regional office located in the heart of the midlands in Solihull.

We represent some of the biggest global and home grown brands, including Lenovo, Epson, Orlando Tourist Board, Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, TOTAL Greek Yoghurt, the Tate Galleries, panmacmillan and Carmignac Gestion Luxembourg.

A recent bit of work that you are proud of.

We have a reputation for delivering innovative, results-driven campaigns. Two of our most recent examples are:

    1) Tate Britain, using real time data to deliver relevant advertising offline: Tate wanted to engage audiences and raise awareness around its permanent collection, in an interactive and wide-reaching campaign. Understanding the importance that relevancy has on audience engagement and recall of advertising, we worked in collaboration with LivePoster and Posterscope on a digital out of home (DOOH) campaign called “Welcome to Britain” which was aimed at Tate’s target audience, which includes a significant amount of tourists. By using DOOH’s real time capacity to deliver relevant messaging, we produced a creative campaign that used the prevailing weather and traffic conditions to deliver advertising that complemented people’s outdoor environment. We also used flight information to feed into the creative on the main route from Heathrow to London, ensuring we could deliver the creative in the native language of the new arrivals to London.

    2) Lenovo, the world’s biggest PC vendor: To support Lenovo’s Q3 advertising activity around its YOGA products, we produced a cross-channel campaign called #YOGAMyWay featuring mobile, DOOH, social media and OOH. The campaign invited commuters travelling through Waterloo station to upload their selfies to a bespoke microsite to be in with a chance of being featured in Lenovo’s new real-time advert, showing exclusively on the UK’s largest indoor digital screen, Motion@Waterloo. Mobile technology brought the selfies to life by using face masking software to transpose the commuters faces onto moving yoga animations. More than 123,000 people interacted with the digital takeover of Waterloo Station and even Made In Chelsea celebrity Binky Felstead also got involved in the action.

What makes your agency unique or different?

Total Media is one of the few remaining independent media agencies in the UK. With over 30 years’ experience in working with brands including Amazon, eHarmony and Lenovo, clients can rest assured that every media solution we deliver is tailored and bespoke to deliver their KPIs. We also invest a huge amount of energy in ensuring we employ the most talented people in the industry, keeping them on top of their game by continually investing in their professional development. Our Continuous Professional Development programme puts us in the top 3% of the advertising agencies and our IIP gold award for training in the top 1% of the industry.

We are also the only independent media agency to buy international from a central hub, active in over 80 markets around the world, with 12 different languages spoken in the office.

    A pitching/chemistry meeting horror story?

Although while not quite in the same league as a Mary Shelley novel, our most recent chemistry calamity arose when both the agency and the potential client ended up going to completely different locations for an initial chemistry meeting. Cue panic, perspiration and a post haste commute across London.

Where do you see the future of agencies?

The great agencies will be those that are true business partners to clients. These agencies will not only understand what the client’s media brief requires, but also how the answer will helps solve their business problem and contribute to the overall business targets.
