    remarkable

Remarkable.net is a fashion ecommerce agency delivering significant performance and growth for their clients via the latest ecommerce strategies and technology. Established in 1999 they have a long track record of taking full responsibility for their clients’ web requirements – and delivering substantial results. They have achieved particular success in the fashion ecommerce space with their clients such as Moss Bros PLC, Yours Clothing, Jeff Banks and many more.

A recent bit of work that you are proud of.

We recently launched a brand new mobile optimised ecommerce site for Yours Clothing and saw a traffic to sales increase of over 7% from their customers who are shopping using small screen devices. The latest technologies allow us to build mobile websites more like apps so the new Yours site is essentially still a website but incorporates things like finger swipe controls, geo-location for stores and the display of hundreds of product catwalk videos that quickly stream to any device including iOS devices such as iPhones.

What makes your fashion ecommerce agency unique or different?

What makes our agency unique is that for many of our clients we effectively act as their web team, carrying out all daily requirements from proactive design and distribution of high impact email broadcasts to new features and functionality developments. We also take responsibility to achieve targets with our clients on a regular basis and proactively set out strategies and delivery to achieve those targets. For example we will agree a set sales figure that the client would like to see via the ecommerce site and then recommend and agree what we will do to achieve that target in the given time.

We also have a wealth of in-house knowledge and technologies that we have developed over many years to draw upon; From our front-end websites that are hand-built using the latest web technologies through to the back office that can predict stock fluctuations and automatically notify buying teams to our custom catwalk video streaming facility. A latest innovation that we have recently completed is an advanced customer data and profiling facility meaning that products shown to a visitor are uniquely tailored to the interest metrics of each person - which has had a fantastic effect on sales conversion rates.

    A Pitching/chemistry meeting horror story?

For many years now we have worked for the fashion designer Leon Max and look after his brand online called Max Studio in the UK and USA. The European headquarters for Max Studio are at a country estate in Northampton called Easton Neston which used to belong to Lord Hesketh - who famously owned the Formula One Hesketh Racing team in the seventies. I was lucky enough to be at Easton Neston one day when they were filming scenes for the film called Rush which was about James Hunt who drove for Hesketh Racing and several key sequences in the film were shot at Easton Neston.

And this gives you some background to my pitching horror story which occurred around five years ago when I was lucky enough to be invited to the estate to meet the Managing Director and pitch to become the ecommerce partner agency to Max Studio. They have fabulous offices and production facilities on the site today but at that time when the brand first came into Europe they were working from the main house. Easton Neston was designed by the famous architect Nicholas Hawksmoor and it is a very beautiful and regal country house exactly as you would imagine - adorned with priceless tapestries and huge gilt framed artworks on every wall.

A housekeeper proceeded to show me into a large state room with a marbled floor and a large oak table in the centre that was being temporarily used as a meeting table. Everything was positioned over a very old woven rug which resembled the Bayeux tapestry in appearance. So there I was sat with the MD and two members of his internal team and was about to start my pitch for their ecommerce business, as it was summer and quite hot on the table was a jug of water and another jug of chilled orange juice. The MD asked what I would like to drink and I opted for the orange juice, he poured some juice into a glass, got up and started to walk around the table to bring it over to me. Unfortunately as he approached where I was sitting, he tripped on a crease in the rug that might have been made by my laptop bag when I placed it down, he thankfully managed to rebalance himself but in the process of doing so spilt a little of the orange juice down onto the rug... "Is it expensive ?" I asked as we stared at the small orange stain although knew the answer only to hear the reply "no its only priceless". The rug was as old as the house and worth what I could only imagine was an awful lot of money, however thankfully the lady that had shown me in was clearly an expert at cleaning very expensive old rugs and managed to completely remove the stain in no time. And so I composed myself, delivered my pitch and thankfully was forgiven for my bag possibly causing the crease. I subsequently won the order and Max Studio are still with me to this day but it was an occasion I will not forget.

Where do you see the future of agencies?

I think proactive agencies have a great future if they can adapt and synchronize with a retailers internal team and strategy like we try to do at Remarkable.net for our clients. In some ways I believe an outsourced delivery of the whole ecommerce offering is a better scenario for any retail organisation. An external commercial team focused on delivering achievable targets will always remain hungry and constantly strive to innovate and deliver results. At any time we have at least ten separate intensive client projects being developed by our in-house team so there is a high degree of ecommerce innovation. Along with our own internal research and development we strive to communicate and offer a constant stream of ideas and technologies to increase sales and the effectiveness of the internet for our clients.

If your agency was an animal what would it be and why?

Hmmm I would like to think we would be something really fast and efficient like a leopard or jaguar. Whenever you see footage of those types of creatures on wildlife shows they always seem incredibly focused on achieving their goals – I like to think that is also a core characteristic of Remarkable.net (fashion ecommerce agency).
